See variant published by Professor Josiah H. Combs in Folk-Songs du Midi des £tats-Unisy Paris, 1925, p. 183. It has thirteen stanzas and a chorus. Some of the stanzas are almost identical with those of the present text. The chorus of the former is practically the same as the last two hnes of stanza 8 and the first three lines of stanza 9 of the song printed here.
